Who We Are
TheRightHive was built around one observation: beekeeping equipment advice online almost never accounts for where you actually live. A hive setup that works well in coastal Georgia can struggle through a Minnesota winter, and most “best of” lists don’t say a word about it. We built this site to fix that — every recommendation here is filtered by climate zone and by what you’re actually trying to do with your bees, not just by star rating.
How We Test Equipment
Every product we recommend is evaluated against the same published rubric — climate suitability, build quality, ease of assembly, value, and cost-per-year-of-use — rather than a subjective star rating. Where we haven’t personally run a product through a full season, we say so directly in that review and ground our assessment in the manufacturer’s published specifications and verifiable buyer feedback, rather than presenting an untested product as field-proven. We’d rather tell you plainly what we know and don’t know than manufacture false confidence.
What We Won’t Recommend
- Equipment we haven’t verified is currently available from a reputable supplier
- Products where the manufacturer’s own claims don’t hold up against independent information we can verify
- Anything we wouldn’t use in our own climate zone for its intended purpose
